As in previous years, these lists are framed as ‘favourites’ rather than ‘best ofs’, and contain records that the VF team have enjoyed, returned to and agonised over more than most.

Picking up where 2017 left off, jazz also continued to infiltrate the airwaves, taking hybrid forms on demanding records by Ben LaMar Gay and Kamasi Washington in the United States, and via the increasingly prolific UK movement, from Brownswood’s We Out Here generation, to Kamaal Williams’ groove-ready fusion.Īnd as many countries took alarming turns towards nationalism in 2018, music continued to become increasingly global. As such, some of the most powerful came veiled in complexity, like SOPHIE’s Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides or Fatima’s And Yet It’s All Love.īoth also tapped into a frequent concern among this year’s selection, as artists sought to navigate the increasingly fluid distinction between the personal and the political – a tension also explored on Lotic’s Power, Neneh Cherry’s Broken Politics and Blood Orange’s Negro Swan among others. The UEF also have a Heavy Air Transport, which conveniently has shields and Air-to-Ground weapons to begin with, so your LABs will be protected.Rather than grand statements, 2018 was a year of quiet revolutions and insurgent messages that realigned the status quo. Since that one hook wouldn't have much use in transporting, as you would probably need that gunship for its combat role, why not give it an extra 21 DPS? The UEF have a significant advantage in this, as their T2 Gunship, the Stinger, has a single transport hook. Although LABs are weak, and as such don't find much use on the battlefield, they can severely damage an army when fully loaded into a transport and survive to do enough damage, as opposed to lasting just briefly in a firefight. Players have exploited this technique to create a makeshift air-to-ground aircraft, dubbed the "Ghetto Gunship". The Tech 1 light assault bots, the UEF Mech Marine, the Cybran Hunter, and the Aeon Flare, have a unique ability: They are the only Bots, or land units in general, able to fire their weapons while on a transport. The spam just can't compete with t3 and experimental. late game, It doesn't matter how many mantis you have. However, late game they are even more useless than t1 tanks due to their lower health and damage. It is slightly faster than other tanks making flanking and getting behind tanks and bases easier. When paired with a mole, they can make excellent mex killers. Mantis spams are preferred by players because of the cheapness and speed of which they can be produced. This is different than t1 tank spam because mantis, as an assault bot, is cheaper and builds faster, but does less damage and is weaker. One thing cybran players like to utilize is the mantis spam. Heavier bots like the Percival and Brick are slower than most other bots but they are much more powerful.
Bots are fast, and agile units great for scouting and raids. Tech 3 ground units are generally Bots, as well as some Tech 1 units.
The Cybran Hoplite and UEF Mongoose are examples of units which excel when managed well. Bots are as a rule less heavily armored than Tanks of the same Tech level, but with effective micromanagement can bring down the tanks with minimal trouble. Bots are highly maneuverable legged units designed to outmaneuver their slower tank based counterparts.
